Reports to: Head Brewer

Job Type: Full Time (40 Hours / week)

Wage: $19.00 / hr

Summary

The Cellar Manager reports to the Head Brewer and is responsible for the complete oversight and management of beer in progress in fermenter and bright beer tank. The Cellar Manager oversees and advises on production scheduling, maintenance requirements, SOP improvement, and staffing needs. The Cellar Manager is responsible for the overall cleanliness and safety in the cellar and will also support the Brewing Team and Packaging Team as required and scheduled.

Key Tasks, not limited to:

  • Management, scheduling, and execution of all cellar operations.
  • Developing and implementing SOPs for production processes.
  • Tank cleaning and sanitizing (CIP), Beer transfers, filtering, fining, dry hopping, carbonating, yeast management, basic sensory, record keeping, and more.
  • Cleaning the outside of vessels, floors, and maintaining the appearance of production spaces.
  • Adherence to all SOPs, checklists, and safety procedures, as provided.
  • Advancing quality, safety, and processes.
  • Working safely with strong acids, caustics, and other harmful materials.
  • Routine lab work such as cell counts, pH measurement, ABV, and extract measurement.
  • As requested, support wort production and quality testing.
  • Complete record keeping accurately.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A love for beer and an interest in how it is brewed.
  • 1+ years of professional brewing experience or graduate of an accredited brewing program.
  • A high energy level and an attention to detail is needed.
  • Must be physically able to lift 55 lb grain sacks, drag heavy hoses across the floor and perform other physically demanding duties such as moving and stacking kegs.
  • Ability to work both independently, and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts, including early morning, and afternoons.
  • Licence to operate a forklift is an asset.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the brewery
  • Competent in MS Office and basic communication software
  • Ability to crouch, stand, or climb competently throughout an 8-10 hour brewing shift.
  • Ability to work in colder and warmer spaces according to the season.
